Marvas Coffee

Arabica or Robusta what should I choose?

The two main varieties of coffee that are widely grown are Arabica and Robusta. There are significant differences between these two varieties in terms of plant, taste, quality and growing conditions. Let's look at the main differences:

Type of coffee:

Arabica (Coffea arabica): Arabica coffee is more common and considered high quality.

It is grown at an altitude of 1100m up to 1950-2000m, has an egg-shaped shape, is quite developed in grain size and has a high density. Tastewise, it has a pleasant and sweet taste due to the fairly low caffeine content and always offers lively and intense aromas. The higher the coffee tree is grown, the tastier and more aromatic coffees we have.

This is due to the fact that at such altitudes there is no environmental pollution of the "city", exhaust gas, diseases, polluted water, etc., it is also worth noting that the species of Coffea arabica is more vulnerable to diseases and micro-organisms and easily may be damaged. One reason is, as we mentioned above, the low caffeine content. Caffeine is an ingredient that helps to defend the fruit on the tree, it is even capable of killing any microorganism or insect that attacks the fruit.

By preparing this species in a coffee drink, it will offer us sweetness, acidity of fruits and citrus fruits and pleasant aromas of nuts, flowers, etc.

Robusta (Coffea canephora): Robusta is famous for the aggressive character it has in the taste, the strong characteristics of earthy flavors with mild aromatic qualities.
Generally,
It is also cultivated at lower altitudes. Tastewise, it has a very intense, aggressive and bitter taste, with typical "friendly" chocolate flavors that you can distinguish in good varieties. The bitter and intense taste it has is clearly due to the fairly high caffeine content.
The taste of caffeine if you try it in powder form is bitter.

For this reason, the robusta coffee tree can also be grown at low altitudes close to "city" pollution, because it is not vulnerable and has all the resources to defend itself against it.

Choosing the right blend depends on our personal taste and our particular taste buds. There are coffee lovers who prefer lighter, aromatic coffee blends, while others choose coffees with intensity and bitterness.

If you are still undecided, experiment and try different coffees – the taste journey will be interesting and exciting. If you have any questions, ask us for guidance on choosing which blend to try.
