The espresso brewing process is an art, and the details matter!
Experiment with varieties, grinds, amount of coffee and pressure to find the perfect flavor that suits you.
Here are some basic steps and ingredients needed to brew a good espresso:
Coffee maker: You need a special espresso machine. The machines used to make espresso are usually pressure brew or access.
Coffee: Choose high-quality espresso coffee, such as the varieties we have at Marvas coffee. You should either buy the coffee freshly ground or buy it in beans and grind it yourself for a tastier result.
Grinding: Use an espresso grinder to grind the coffee. The ideal texture that the coffee should have when grinding should be a powdery texture with a rough finish.
Amount: The appropriate amount of coffee to use for an espresso is around 18-20 grams of coffee.
Pressure: The pressure exerted during extraction should be around 9 bar to create a good espresso.
Extraction time: Extraction time should be about 25-30 seconds for a complete extraction.
Temperature: The water temperature should be around 90°C – 93°C.
Finally, don’t forget to clean your machine and its parts regularly to maintain the quality of your espresso.
